Best site for buying plane tickets?

Main Post:

I will be traveling (on a plane) for the first time alone next year. (In the past I've always gone with a group of people and someone else purchased the tickets for me.) Which travel site is the simplest/easiest to buy plane tickets online?

I was looking at kayak, but please let me know if you have any specific recommendations. I have two diff credit cards but I have never purchased plane tickets online before. ( I would just be purchasing airfare for one person, round-trip and nonstop if possible. I am most focused on finding the best deal as well as reliability/security of the website and something that's easy to use). Any advice/recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What are the best strategies to find good deals on flight tickets?

Main Post:

I’m planning a trip soon and want to make sure I don’t overspend on airfare. Flights often feel really expensive, and it’s confusing because prices seem to fluctuate constantly—sometimes they go up or down within hours or days. I’m looking for reliable tips or strategies that can help me find cheaper flight tickets without compromising too much on convenience or comfort. For example, are there specific days or times when it’s best to book flights? Are certain websites or apps better for finding deals? Also, are there any insider tricks like using flexible dates, booking connecting flights, or signing up for alerts that could help me save money? Any advice on how to navigate this would be really helpful!

Top Comment: Use the tracker on google flights. This will email you when there are price changes for flights. Being flexible with dates will also help. Generally, flying during the week (Tuesday through Thursday) and very early in the morning will lead to lower ticket prices. Learning how to pack your luggage efficiently can also reduce prices a lot. I have a travel backpack and a carry-on suitcase. For warmer trips, I can take about 10 days worth of clothes + sunscreen/hygiene stuff and two pairs of sandals/slides. Doing this saves me $70+ in checked bag fees.

Who's got updated cheap flight hacks for 2025?

Main Post:

Top Comment: Isn’t it usually around the 45-day mark (from the trip) is the ‘sweet-spot’ for the best prices...also never book on a weekend...book on a Tues-Thurs...prices are cheaper if your flight is on a weekday as opposed to a weekend...but definitely don’t just book flights right away...monitor the prices...you will see a difference in prices every day

What is the Best Way to Find Cheap Flights in 2024? Share Your Go-To Websites!

Main Post:

UPDATE: Let's update this post and comments for 2025! What is the best ways to find cheap flights in 2025? Are the websites listed below still the best places to find cheap flights in 2025?

Lately, it feels like finding affordable airfare is like searching for a needle in a haystack. I was recently shocked to see prices from Madrid to Stockholm. We're talking €900 and up for a round trip! This got me thinking, what is the best way to find cheap flights in today's market?

I'm on the hunt for reliable and trustworthy cheap flight websites. There's a sea of options out there, but which ones are genuinely worth checking out? If you've had great experiences or found incredible deals, I'd love to hear about them.

Do you have any insider tips or strategies for navigating these websites to get the best prices? Any advice or suggestions would be incredibly helpful not just to me, but to anyone else in the community looking to travel on a budget.

Excited to learn from your experiences and hopefully uncover some hidden gems in the world of affordable air travel!

Top Comment: Most people are aware of Google flights, and they're good but people are often surprised how many great deals aren't available on Google flights. Here are some good options to consider. Kayak.com - Similar to Google flights in functionality but sometimes have better deals. They also have the "Hacker Fares" feature, which is pretty good if you want mix and match one-way flights. Skyscanner.net - Often has budget options that aren't shown on Google Flights. LetsFly.co.uk - Fairly new travel site and I'm not sure how their flight and hotel meta search works, but you can find some crazy good deals on there. It's a UK based site but works from anywhere in the world. Momondo.com - Sometimes digs up cheap flights that other travel sites miss. Can be good for international flights. Kiwi.com - Can be good for quirky flight combos, and supposedly they offer protection on missed connections, but not sure if they really honor those or what is required to claim (read their Trustpilot reviews). Going.com - Used to be called "Scott’s Cheap Flights" isn’t a search engine but they send you alerts on low price flight deals. You have to pay $199/year though, and you have to be lucky to find a flight to your desired destination on the dates you want to fly. Trabber.com Another flight comparison website that looks good. ITA Matrix is another Google owned and powered flight search that is more technical. You can't book directly with this, but if you're into tweaking your flight search options to the max it can be useful. Travala.com . Another flight comparison website that looks good. When I have an upcoming flight planned I usually try several of these sites, and it's hit and miss where I find the best deal. Generally I find the best deals on Momondo.com and LetsFly.co.uk . This subreddit will also soon become one of the best place to find cheap flights, so hit that Join button!

Any top-secret tips on finding cheap last-minute flights?

Main Post:

I have a trip coming up unexpectedly, and I'm scrambling to find a good deal on a last-minute flight. Does anyone have any tips or hacks for finding cheap flights when booking close to the date? Are there specific apps, websites, or strategies that work best for last-minute deals?

Top Comment: Google flights will be the best price. Unfortunately cheap last minute tickets are not really a thing anymore. Be prepared to pay more than usual for your ticket.
